The Kershaw County Housing
Partnership is a collaborative group of agencies and individuals
who are concerned about and work toward the goal of increasing
safe, decent, affordable housing for the citizens of Kershaw
County.
Within the Housing Partnership
there are three committees who work toward the goals set by the
Partnership in these areas: Home Repairs, Homeless/Transitional
Housing, and Affordable Housing. The Housing Partnership meets
quarterly at United Way (January 21, April 21, July 21, September
22, and November 17, 2008 to elect new officers) and we welcome
anyone interested to join us. Marie Sheheen is the Housing
Coordinator at United Way and works with the above committees to
achieve the goals of the KC Housing Partnership.
United Way of Kershaw County is
the point of contact for low income families, elderly and disabled
persons who need home repairs. Referrals are forwarded to church
groups, Salkehatchie Summer Service, HomeWorks, and Project WARM.
Our United Way is also approved to participate in the S.C. Housing
Trust Fund repair program for qualified homeowners.
UWKC partners with other groups
such as Christian Community Ministries and Wateree Community
Action to provide assistance with overdue rent or mortgage in
crisis situations. Families or individuals are interviewed in the
office for this one-time only assistance and are referred to
community agencies/organizations who may help with other needs. We
are also a referral source for those looking for rental units,
Section 8 assistance, emergency shelter, homeownership
information, etc.
