United Way of Kershaw County

community gardens

Through a United States Department of Agriculture – Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) grant, we are proud to bring 8 Community Gardens to life across Kershaw County. These gardens provide residents with fresh, nutritious, and easily accessible food, while also strengthening community connections and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Our focus is on underserved populations and areas, where access to fresh produce is often limited. By planting and harvesting together, we not only put healthy food on the table but also increase awareness about nutrition, sustainability, and overall well-being.

Key highlights of the Community Gardens initiative:

  • 8 garden sites with 68 garden beds across Kershaw County

  • 2 monthly classes/workshops offering education on gardening, nutrition, and healthy eating

  • Hands-on opportunities for residents to grow their own fresh produce

  • A focus on improving health outcomes and encouraging community involvement
