During the pandemic our United Way of Kershaw County has continued to provide services to our friends and neighbors in need here at home. Through the Mobile Nutrition Center over 191,136 pounds of food has been distributed to those who otherwise would have been hungry. Through a $200,000 grant many have been assisted financially to meet their housing obligations and utilities. Since June 2020 16 families have been provided emergency shelter and 43 have been provided with rapid rehousing moving them from homeless to housed.
Many other partner agencies continue to work providing basic human needs to anyone who comes seeking assistance. Our community is blessed with organizations like the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Sistercare, The Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, the ALPHA Center, Boys and Girls Club, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Family Resource Center, KARE, Camden KC Rescue, KC Council on Aging and Mental Health KC. Without the financial support of donors this work CANNOT continue. We need your help!
As a United Way of KC board member and this year’s Campaign Chair I have seen firsthand the incredible generosity of our community in these unique times. We have trimmed the allocations as much as possible to allow these critical service providers to continue. But it cost money to do so. We celebrate the fact that together our community has contributed over $550,000, but we need to raise an additional $106,000. Please help this community weather the storm and support our United Way with a donation. If you have already given, we thank you. If you have not yet and would like more information you may call the office by dialing 803-432-0951 or visit online at UWKC.net
I had a flowery one -page letter. I tossed it. The message is this. We NEED YOU and the time is now. Please – help us raise the funds to meet the need. It’s up to us. We can do this. We are KC Strong.
